Why does the opening of an art museum attract the attention of the design community? Because the He Art Museum was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Tadao Ando, yes, the "design genius" who designed the Church of Light with its own light source cross at a low cost.

Tadao Ando said when designing and art museum: "I hope to integrate the diverse cultures of southern China that have lasted for thousands of years, and explore an architectural form unique to the Lingnan region." And he focused on the ancient buildings of the Central Plains. In the "round sky, square place" and Lingnan garden landscape, the interlacing of pure geometric solids is used to create an architectural landscape with the characteristics of Lingnan architectural culture and a celebration of light and shadow.

The architectural design of the museum combines opposing features to create aIt became a simple architectural form composed of circles and squares. Ando drew inspiration from the traditional waterside houses in Lingnan and designed the exhibition area as a circular space. The circular space becomes like a double-helix fair-faced concrete staircase with a DNA structure due to the superposition of the double-layer spiral staircase. It is a breathtaking highlight of the museum building and also witnesses the rapid progress of Chinese construction technology.
Like the Pantheon, light "overflows" from the top skylight as the center and is projected onto the stacked stairs. As the sun's position changes, the sunlight wanders poetically through the space. A double spiral staircase spirals down to form a central circular space. The double-helix fair-faced concrete staircase with a DNA structure is a breathtaking highlight of the museum building, and it also witnesses the rapid progress of Chinese construction technology.
The architectural design of He Art Museum uses light to present the different characteristics of each functional space. Under the influence of light, man-made objects and nature, tradition and modernity blend with each other, giving birth to time and space that empower creativity.
Harmony·Lingnan
The Jia'an Garden, the outdoor open garden of the museum, was also designed by Ando. From the overall building to the outdoor garden, it unfolds like ripples on the water's surface. The center is a cylindrical five-story hollow space. The landscape extending from this is a water feature. The pool echoes the "circle" and can be used as a hydrophilic device to alleviate the heat of the subtropical summer.
In the garden stands one of the museum’s commissioned installations. This Ballast, created by American contemporary artist Roxy Paine, is part of the artist’s representative series Dendroids and is the first large-scale installation of this series in Asia.
This stainless steel tree-shaped sculpture called Dendroids is "rooted" next to the water path of the museum. The base is directly connected to the underlying building structure of the museum. Even under the influence of extreme climate environments, the work remainsIt stands tall and perfectly echoes Tadao Ando’s garden design and Lingnan’s spring-like climate all year round.
